Deacon Davis

As a 12 year old, Davis was able to be ordained a Deacon at church.  I can't believe that we have enter the realms of Young Men and Boy Scouts.  I don't know that I am ready for this phase. Girls and scout overnighters scare me.

Davis is a wonderful kid.  He is thoughtful.
He is a worrier.  He is obsessive.
He wants to be good at everything he does.  Except, he doesn't mind if he is lousy at doing his chores.  He often tries to shirk his work.
He is an athlete and a super fast runner.
He is kind and considerate of others.
He laughs easily.
He gives "dead-fish" hugs and chicken peck kisses.  Except to Anya and sometimes (after a lot of teasing and bugging) mom.
He is super smart.  He has aced the Texas standardized tests in all areas both years we've been here.
He loves playing the french horn and loves blowing it loudly outside for all the neighbors to enjoy.
He is growing up to be a wonderful young man, and I love him a ton!

Parents and Davis.  Thank you to the little old man at church who volunteered to take a picture so that we could have a family picture on Davis' special day.

An Amazing Race for Davis

Davis turned 12.  I can't believe that my little guy has grown up so quickly.  He wanted to have an Amazing Race birthday party.  It was a lot of work to put together, but with Darin's help, we got it done.  There were 12 kids running our race in 100 degree weather.  Seriously, it was so very hot that day (our AC went out that night).

Here is his cake.  His invitations looked like this as well, but did say The Amazing Race.

Here is an amazing member of the blue team.

The starting line.  The teams are ready to run!

Some of the tasks, roadblocks, and detours required the teams to Slurp Jello, collect random items via scavenger hunt, run through a sports obstacle course, decorate cupcakes, and transport worms (overcooked spaghetti) using only their hands.

Jello slurping was very messy.

Exact cupcake replication is harder than it looks.

 Davis, singing to himself.

It was a fun and crazy party.  Davis and teammate Cooper were the winners and received 25cents in chocolate pennies...big prize.  I was glad that it all came together as I'd hoped, but I was even happier that it was the last party for almost a year.  Man, these birthday's really wear a mom out.
**If anyone wants to have their own Amazing Race, I'll be happy to share the exact clues etc.

Anya's First Birthday

Anya, my baby, has turned one.  I can't believe how quickly this past year seems to have gone.  Although, when I think of all that has happened and that Darin was gone for 1/2 of it, it does seem like a long year.  What follows will be a bazillion pictures, because I just don't think that I can have enough pictures of this little girl.

Wearing her birthday tutu.  I just had to make a special skirt for her special day.

Anya can stand, but tips easily.  She isn't close to walking and I don't mind.  If she is like Christian and Jaggy, she won't walk for about 5 more months. My kids take their time.

This is what the cake started out looking like.  It was just pink and was supposed to have frosting ruffles.  The frosting was soft and the house was hot, so it wasn't looking like I would have wanted.

I added some marshmallow eyes, and I liked it much better.

She loved the singing and candle, but it had been a long day with the jungle party.  She was tired and wanted to sleep, not party.

This is what happened when we forced her to put frosting on her finger and taste it.  She screamed.  I cut the cake in half and tried to get her to taste the insides, but more tears.  Hey, it's her party and she can cry if she wants to.  She actually spent her party soaking in a tub and then retiring to bed early.

Happy Birthday Little Anya!

Jag, Finally 7!

Jag has been counting down to seven years old for way too long.  Finally, Saturday came.  I was feeling the pressure on Friday night when he announced that, "Tomorrow is going to be one of the best days of my life."  Nothing like having expectations that your mom has to try to meet.

Pokemon.  Ugh,  I hate the things, but he loves them.  He got several Pokemon things.
Jag was so sweet and quickly ran to hug and thank the giver (only family members) of the gift.

He wanted a Jungle Party.  We had a WILD time.
Here is his cake.  He was very specific about wanting a waterfall and trees and animals.  We found a package of animals, but it is hard to make them look right when you have an elephant that is smaller than the gorilla.  It worked out fine, and he loved it
A jungle party has to visit the zoo.  Has to.  Jungle animals aren't in our neighborhood.  Just and FYI.
A lot of boys taking a break by the elephants.  A lot of boys.  If we could have left just one by the elephants... it would have been a different trip.  Just one and I get to pick.

Jaggy is a wonderful and energetic boy.  He loves a lot.  He never wants to leave a "man behind." Unless it is Davis to babysit, because Jag is a homebody.  He hates running errands and thinks that it is worst thing ever.   He is tough and puts up with a lot of leg pain, but really doesn't complain.  He snores like a chainsaw, just like his grandpa Davis.  Jag is funny and thinks that all things gross are even funnier.  He wants a pet really, really bad.  He has become a great big brother and is growing up so fast.  How I love my Jaggy.

It is a May Thing

Anya looking fierce with foam weapon.
In the middle of her "Flying M" move.
Anya is a genius.  She has learned early on that if you can avoid anything painful, do it. She crawls, but only on carpet.  On hard floors she scoots on her bum.  I call it the "Flying M," because that is the shape her legs make as she quickly moves around the floor.  As soon as she comes to the carpet, she does a regular crawl.  Genius.
In this house, it is a May thing.  A May 21st thing to be exact.  Jag never crawled either, he only scooted.  We lived in Turkey where all the floors were hard and marble.  He, too was a genius.  I am amazed at how many similarities there are between my two little May 21st babies.
May 21st, that is an awesome date.

Hurray for Jag

Jag was SO excited!  Finally a top tooth out.  He should have been listening to his primary teacher instead of fiddling with his tooth.  The other kids in the class thought that the missing tooth and little bit of blood were cool.  Jag always thinks that blood is cool.
