The Noahsaurs Is 3

Noah wanted a dinosaur cake.

As I started to "carve" the cake into what I thought was a dino shape, a nice boy called it a dog. So I added another "fin" on the back and shortened the snout part. Then another nice boy pulled out the sheet of dinosaur pictures on it and tried to identify which one I was making. His conclusion was that it wasn't really any of them. That is when I gave up and decided to put spots on the cake and make it unlike any other dinosaur they had seen. I called it a Noahsaurs and told them it could look like anything I wanted. Davis comes in the room to look at the finished cake -a Noahsaurs?! There actually is a dinosaur named Noahsaurs, and it looks nothing like that one. Oh, it is a carnivore, so I guess the teeth are right.

Thanks boys!

Noah thought it was great, he is only 3 and doesn't really KNOW dinosaurs yet.

This is my 3rd dinosaur cake and there is only so many ways to make a different cake. I really hope that it is the last dinosaur cake that I make.

Felt, Felt, Felt

This is Noah's Birthday gift from his momma.

Curse that Jaylynn for telling me about the website, homemade by Jill, and for turning my freetime into a felt frenzy. The original was one that was made to go over the kitchen table. MY purpose for making such a house was to keep Noah from making one ON the kitchen table. He makes houses everywhere, out of every pillow and blanket he can find. I wanted a house that fit on a card table, and I could put it where ever I wanted him to play. It has been a big hit for all the boys. He enjoys sitting inside and watching TV through the window. (It didn't take as long as I thought it might.)

Visitors

We recently had a few visitors! Dad, Cathy, Drew and Preslee came for a few days. Too bad that we were in the middle of a horrible rainy period. We still made sure to see the sights. We went to the Alamo and Riverwalk during the storm. The boys were in school (and happy they didn't have to see the "boring Alamo" again), and I was happy that I didn't have to take complainers.

We did get a few days of nice weather. We let the boys skip school and went to the zoo and ice cream instead.

Preslee was afraid of the birds and would only get this close for 1 photo.

We spent a beautiful Saturday on Market Street. We watched some Mexican dancers, shopped and ate. It was lots of fun, but I didn't get any pictures of it. I lost my camera :( Only to have it show up in the box of goldfish crackers a day later.

We also spent Sunday lounging, eating and watching the Super Bowl. Hurray, Davis' team won. Although some of the "fans" at our house were switching sides in the middle of the game. Davis was loyal to the end, and grumpy with the "switchers."

We had a great time with family.

Pinewood Derby

I'm finally back from my blogging vacation and ready to post about the wonderful Pinewood Derby.

We do things a bit different with our derby cars. First, the boys receive their block of wood then I calculate how quickly we need to send the blocks to grandpa Davis. The boys draw on their block and we ship them to grandpa. Grandpa cuts them out, fills them with weight, and sends them back. The boys spend a Saturday sanding and priming the cars. Then paint. They aren't fancy like the cars I remember from my brothers, but the boys like them. I convinced Davis that nobody would know that his checkers were from a Sharpie and not paint. I convinced Christian that using red fingernail polish to paint the stripe was super cool, and shiny. Add a few stickers and done!

The cars usually always do well, but this year we had a few problems. Davis had a car that wanted to jump the track right before the finish line -EVERY TIME! Christian was just glad to be participating. The boys had a race off and Davis won Last Place! They were pleased with their awards of "Best Paint Job" (Davis) and "Judges Favorite" (Christian). All I can say is, at least Christian didn't do too much better than Davis. I would rather have two OK cars, than one great car and one crying boy.

Thanks Grandpa! Next year, only 1 car.
