Darin has loved learning about WWII for nearly forever. This trip to the Normandy area was on his "MUST DO" list. It was wonderful to get go there with him and to see these amazing sites. It brought tears to my eyes (not just because my allergies were the worst they've been in years while there) to see this beautiful and peaceful area and to think of it as a place of war and death not that many years ago. Families were changed because of what happened in these places and it was an honor to be there.
How amazing to be at Normandy! I was just a little girl during WWII, but I remember the tone of conversations during that time. I knew it was scary for those so affected by the bombs, etc. Two of my uncles were there, and one of them survived the Battle of the Bulge. I've read so much about this, so I understand what a sobering experience this must have been. Keep sharing, and we'll talk about it when I see you in late August.
